A fantastic new book, from George Proud, presenting over 160 reasonably easy-to-find wild flowers with some stunning images. The book describes where many of the plants were photographed and the type of environment in which they might normally be found. The book also describes some of the folklore, the myths and the superstitions of plants plus the uses which the plants may have had in the treatment of disease by the old herbalists, some of whom were “physicians”, some priests, some astrologists and some of “uncertain background”. Their treatments make fascinating, and often truly scary, reading.
